2018 Beating targets year after year!

SPGC Charity Day 2018

                                                                             The recently
held SPGC Charity Day was a great success, raising over £6000 for our chosen
charities: Dogs for Good, Dan’s Trust and PHAB based in Whalley.

Twenty six
teams from Home Gas, Stonyhurst Park members and local businesses enjoyed 18
holes of golf on a dry if somewhat chilly day. The splendid day of golf was
followed by dinner at the Shireburn Arms in the evening, where an auction of
donated prizes from local businesses helped to boost the final total.

Our
beautiful course was in magnificent condition and received well deserved plaudits
from golfers new to the course and those who regularly play at Stonyhurst. Much
credit must go to the grounds staff and helpers who prepared the course
enabling us to showcase our club in such a good light.

The SPGC
charity day is held annually and if any members would like to be involved or
would like to nominate a charity please contact Tony Lee at
tony.lee@seriun.co.uk or Jean Gentry at jeangentry15@gmail.com

Annual Corporate Charity Day

Each year around thirty teams of four enter the event, starting the day with a bacon 'buttie' 18 holes of golf , an evening function which includes dinner, prize giving and an auction.

The teams compete for a number of prizes. Raffle tickets go on sale around mid-April, but the real winners are the three local charities.

A big thank you goes to our loyal Charity Sponsors, Home Gas Supplies, the SPGC Charity Committee members, club members and all those who regularly get involved in making such a difference to people's lives.

SPGC - a small club with a Big Heart

It was in 1993 that Founder Member Arthur Wilkinson decided to hold a "Charity Week-end". In those early days it was a joint event involving both Club and College in an effort to raise money for both College and Club nominated Charities.

Today the event is run by the golf club and takes place on a Friday, usually in May; The 2018 event is being held on Friday 11th of May

Over the years this event has raised in the region of £90,000 and now averages a clear profit of £6,000 per year which is then distributes to three nominated local charities, each of which receives sponsorship for three years.

2018 Charities to benefit from SPGC success.

In 2018 the local charities destined to benefit from the generosity of local companies, the golf club members and the charity day sponsors, are:

  • Dogs for Good - A charity which trains dogs to help people to overcome physical and psychological challenges in their lives. Although a national charity, all the money given is to support people in the Ribble Valley. (Third and final year)

  • Dans Trust - A national charity set up by a Clitheroe family following the untimely death of Dan Bagshaw. The charity supports the early diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrest in the young. It also provides financial support  to talented youngsters in the Ribble Valley and Hyndburn areas.  (Second year)

  • PHAB - A charity supporting children up to the age of 18 who have physical and/or learning difficulties. The charity has a club based in Whalley which provides activities for children, organised childrens holidays and respite care. (Second year)
  • Dogs for good is in its final year so we have a vacancy for a new charity in 2019.
